Our mission at For The Love Of A Cat is to reduce the existing feral cat population in Lincoln County. We provide humane trapping, spay/neuter services, care and feeding of existing colonies, as well as placement in good homes for adoptable cats. Our goals and strategies are three-fold. Firstly to Reduce the homeless feline population and prevent additional growth. This will be accomplished though the use of our Trap/Neuter/Return program. Secondly to establish and care for existing feral colonies. A reliable supply of food helps maintain the security and well-being of the colony. Thirdly to provide adoption services for abandoned, non-feral cats and feral offspring. The identification of non feral adults* is based on observed behavior during the initial veterinary visit. The desired goals of these strategies is to create disease-free and well-established colonies and prevent the influx of new members. The rescue and adoption of feral kittens and stray cats helps to remove felines from at-risk scenarios in the wild. It provides loving and secure homes for the cats and provides loving pets for their human companions. There are many things you can do to help improve the health and quality of life of feral cats. Donations of food and other cat supplies are always welcome. Donate the neutering of one feral cat, or volunteer to feed and water a feral colony. Help care for and socialize feral kittens. All help and cash donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. * A non feral or stray cat is a pet cat who is lost or abandoned. Feral cats are the offspring of lost or abandoned pet cats or other feral cats who are not spayed or neutered. Stray cats are accustomed to contact with people and are tame, but feral cats are not accustomed to contact with people and are typically too fearful and wild to be handled. Whereas stray cats may be reunited with their families or adopted into new homes, feral cats do not easily adapt to living as pets in close contact with people. |
